She’s unprepared for the frigid winter, loving relatives who aren’t the monsters she’s been led to believe, and the hot, scruffy firefighter who lives upstairs.

At first, Jessica is determined to get back to her comfortable life as quickly as possible. All she has to do is talk her grandparents into selling their monstrosity of a house and moving to a retirement community. But she underestimates Rick’s dedication—and his considerable charm. Nobody’s taking advantage of his friends on his watch, even if that makes the tempting southern California girl with the long legs his adversary. Unfortunately for them both, the only thing more urgent than the matter at hand is their sizzling chemistry, and it’s quickly becoming too strong to resist.

The Unseen is a novella in the Elder Races series by Thea Harrison. It’s full of humor, romance, surprises and all of your favorite Wyr characters.

Fans will enjoy return to the Elder Races series and one of the main couples Pia and Dragos. If you haven’t read the Elder Races series then you need to start at the beginning and read in order. This novella is not the place to start.

It was such a joy return to the Elder Race world. I love all the different kinds of Wyr’s and how vast the world building is. We are always treated to something new in each novel or novella.

It was fabulous seeing all the old characters from all the novels. They come together to wish Pia and Dragos good luck on their new adventure, but even with them leaving the Wyr demise and moving to the Other land of Rhyacia things don’t go as planned and the gang comes together to help. I loved seeing many of my favorite couples come back and having the author give us insight into where they are and what they are doing now. It was so fantastic to get answers to things I was thinking about and wondering.

The Cuelebre family are a joy to read about. It’s so great to see how much Pia has grown, to see Stinkpot and his adorableness, and to see how much Dragos love for his Mate.

I would love to tell you more, but I don’t want to ruin the surprises. I will point out that the author does note to her readers this novella ends on a cliffhanger. I have a love-hate relationship with cliffhangers, but I have to say this cliffhanger was in the perfect spot. It has left me wanting the next novella and I can’t wait until it comes out. Luckily I won’t have to wait long, since the author will be releasing the next three novellas in quick succession.

Taran Wird, the loudmouth mistress of flame and lightning, didn’t want to attend the formal gathering of the supernatural elite. She did so only to help to unite the supreme beings in attendance in one common goal: protecting Taran’s sister, Celia.

Celia is pregnant with alpha werewolf Aric Connor’s child, the same child prophesized to save the world from uprising evil. Evil wants this child dead before he is born and, more importantly, before he can grow strong enough to stop it

Taran and her werewolf lover, Gemini, put plans in place to protect Celia. Master Vampire Misha Aleksandr and his clan also swear their allegiance to Celia and vow to keep her from harm. The witches even cast protection spells around the manor to curse anyone with malintent who enters. Nothing was supposed to go wrong, except everything did.

Creatures that shouldn’t exist stalk the grounds and invade the premises, and every curse meant to shield the guests turns against them. No one counted on the powerful being who arrived uninvited. But he’s here, manipulating the magic enclosing the estate to work in his favor.

As body counts rise and allies become enemies, chances are Celia won’t survive the night. But evil never counted on how hard Taran Wird would fight, even at the expense of her life.

Of Flame and Fury is book three in the Flame series and book nine in the Weird Girls series by Cecy Robson.

I’ve had a blast with this world and continue to enjoy each new installment. I would recommend reading in order. The Weird sisters are amazing and unique women.

Of Flame and Fury we conclude Gemini and Taran’s storyline. Yet, this is not the end of the series; because the author hints at the end that there is more to coming.

This story starts off with a bang and continues throughout the whole story. The main focus is protecting Celia and her baby. It’s a fast-paced action-packed story, but it felt a bit too much; to over the top, too much death and destruction, and just all around overkill. I enjoy action packed stories, but this was excessive.

Taran, for all her failings in the magical world, is a powerhouse for trudging through an exhausting evening. I like that we get her and Gemini’s happy every after and a surprise at the end.

Their’s a lot of wonderful and interesting characters, but this time around we don’t get to spend time with them. The battle overshadows this diverse family.

We do get to see that something is going on with Emma and Bren. The few times we see them in the same room it broke my heart. Their issue has been going on for a few books now and I would have liked to know what’s up. I’m hoping the author gives us them next.

Of Flame and Fury was a whirl wind ride and I look forward to the next installment.

A Paranormal Women's Fiction with a bit of class, and a lot of sass, for anyone who feels like age is just a number!

Whoever said life begins at forty must have been heavily medicated, drunk, or delusional.

Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good.

But as they say, all good things come to an end. I’d honestly love to know who ’they’ are and rip them a new one.

One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed and breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job—deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there. I think they need my help, but since I don’t speak dead, we’re having a few issues.

To add to the heap of trouble, there’s a new dangerously smokin’ hot lawyer at the firm who won't stop giving me the eye. My BFF is
thrilled with her new frozen face, thanks to her plastic surgeon, her alimony check, and the miracle of Botox. And then there’s the little conundrum that I’m becoming way too attached to my ghostly squatters… Like Cher, I'd like to turn back time. Now.

No can do.

Whatever. I have wine, good friends, and an industrial sized box of superglue. What could possibly go wrong?

Everything, apparently.

All in all, it’s shaping up to be a wonderful midlife crisis…

It’s A Wonderful Midlife Crisis is book one in the Good to the Last Death series by Robyn Peterman.

I’ve not had the pleasure of reading Peterman before even thou I have a few of her books on my TBR. I wanted to like this novel; especially since I’ve really enjoyed others in the over 40 bracket novels that have been coming out, but this one just didn’t hit the spot.

Our heroine, Daisy, is a 39 year old widow and a paralegal who loves working with her friends. When the story starts we see her gluing a hand back on a ghost and she explains that this isn’t normal for her. It just stated one day that she could see ghosts. Now, does she go looking for answers? Nope! Throughout the story Daisy doesn’t try to understand this new ability, nor does she talk to her grandma about it, nor does she try to get the lowdown on what is happen even when she finds out a few of the people in her life are paranormal or part of her world. What does she do? She runs around dumb and at the end she blows up her life on one big assumption about her brand-new ghost filled life. I was petered by that. She’s 40 and she does this stupid thing!!

As for the romance; I didn’t fall for the romance. I couldn’t believe it especially when Daisy doesn’t try to understand her new world.

As for the story I was lost when it start. I felt like I was missing a whole book. It just didn’t start in a way that worked. The story was slow moving and didn’t hold my interest. It lacked in plot, character and world building. It lacked in any type of explanation on what is happening to our heroine and our ghosts. And, the story also ends on a cliffhanger and I have a love-hate relationship with those. This time I didn’t care for it.

It’s A Wonderful Midlife Crisis was meant to come off as a mix of humor, paranormal woo-woo and romance, but I felt it didn’t meet those expectations.

Review: Mama and the Alien Warrior (Treasured by the Alien #1) by Honey Phillips & Bex McLynn

 Mama and the Alien Warrior

 Science Fiction Romance - Aliens

Can a weary warrior and an abducted single mom save each other?

Abby Wentworth never regretted abandoning her corporate career to adopt her orphaned niece and run a maternity home. But she certainly never expected to find herself and her girls abducted by aliens who intend to sell them as breeders.

When they are rescued by a massive alien and his crew, desires she has long suppressed start to surface. She finds herself unexpectedly drawn to the captain who treats both her and her daughter with unwavering devotion.

Until his ship intercepts an illegal Vedeckian trader, Captain Hrebec is resigned to spending his life alone. The Cires lost their females to a plague many years ago. Now for the first time, this luscious human female has him longing for a mate and a family.

But Abby has to get her girls back to Earth, and Hrebec may have one last chance to save his race. Will their duties force them apart? Or will they finally find a family of their own?

Mama and the Alien Warrior is a standalone science fiction romance. This sweet and steamy HEA is intended for adults only.

Goodreads

Amazon

Mama and the Alien Warrior is book one in the Treasured by the Alien series by Honey Phillips & Bex McLynn.

Hrebec is adorable. I loved him the moment we meet him. He’s sweet and I just loved his interaction with the human child, her mother, and the Cire baby. He’s just heart-melting.

Abby sees herself as a mother figure to these women who where dropped off at her door. She’s protective of everyone in her care.

As the story goes and is explained in the blurb Abby has opened a maternity home for women with no place to go. All of those in her care are kidnapped from earth. Then get rescued by the Cires.

We are introduced to many secondary characters both human and aliens. At times it was hard to keep track of everyone, since so many are introduced and some secondary characters where hooking up besides our leads.

A few things frustrated me and took away from the story.

1. Abby kept saying throughout the book were going back to Earth. We’re leaving. We’re going back. She never asked the young ladies in her care if they wanted to stay with their rescuers or go back to earth. What do these women have to go back too? They had nothing back on Earth so, why go back? It was frustrating how much she kept repeating this.

2. Another thing that frustrated me was with Abby in that she never wanted to explore the possibility of a future with Hrebec, until all the other women said they want to stay. She just pushed off the bond. Even with all the signs.

3. I was very frustrated with Abby in that she thinks she knows what’s best for Molly. What Abby did in keeping Molly away from her mate ended up making Molly suffer. With the suffer all the signs where their that she wasn’t doing well. What Abby did put Molly, her unborn child, and her mates life in danger leading to a medical emergence. And in the end, only two lines are said about this and all is forgiven.

4. Last, It was frustrating that Abby tried to force the women in her care to do as she said and made decisions for them. These are grown women. Even if they are young and one is a teenager she should have talked to them and asked their opinion instead of being a mother in that my word is law.

Now, their were a few things I did enjoy about this story.

1. We are treated to some sweet and tender interactions. My favorite parts where all the interactions with the 2-year-old, Lucie. She was so adorable and open minded with her situation.

2. I enjoyed the aliens and how unique they are.

3. The family bonding parts where just so adorable.

4. Last, I liked how curious the aliens are in seeing a child, infants, and women. Many have never seen children and women; because their race has no women and is dyeing.

Mama and the Alien Warrior was a nice and enjoyable read.

Charlie’s brother has put her in the no-win situation of having to rescue a cyborg from Earth Government. It’s dangerous, she’ll become an outlaw on Earth, but it’s the only way to save her brother’s life. The imprisoned cyborg is rude, conceited and probably the biggest jerk she’s ever had the misfortune to meet. His only redeeming qualities are his handsome face and sexy, muscular body. Just wow! Still, she can’t wait to be rid of him.

All cyborgs hate humans, but Zorus is consumed by it. Chained, enslaved and facing death on Earth once again, he vows revenge. To his utter astonishment, a human female comes to his rescue. She’s rude, mouthy and bossy. And very brave. She baffles him almost as much as she arouses him. Zorus cannot deny that he’s fascinated by her. They are about to lock wills and ignite a firestorm of desire that defies every rule he lives by.

Redeeming Zorus is book six in the Cyborg Seduction series by Laurann Dohner.

Some of the books in this series can be read as stand-alone or out of order. I actually started the series with this book, Redeeming Zorus. It was my first taste and it read well enough on its own with a few references to past events. I actually deiced to start here; because the blurb really appealed to me.

This novel is enemies to lover relationship. Zorus hates humans with a passion and it’s ironic that he falls for one.

The opening is gripping and I had a great time with our dangerous alpha cyborg male and our strong human woman. These two snip at each other as they rush to escape human pursuers. Then their relationship changes to passion as they overcome their differences and become a couple. Things aren’t easy and they had to fight for their relationship and learn to believe and trust in each other.

Redeeming Zorus was truly a wonderful sexy read.

Being a female mechanic on a space station for eight years has taught Dawn a lot of tough life lessons that have hardened her heart. She’s got a temper and a mouth to match her red hair and has never backed away from a challenge. Then she’s kidnapped and blackmailed into agreeing to be a cyborg’s personal sex slave.

Iron is one big bastard with long, fiery red hair, intense, dark blue eyes and a stubborn streak as thick as his dense muscles. If Iron thinks he can tame her, he’s about to learn that “meek” is not in Dawn’s vocabulary. But with that handsome face, a body to die for, a wickedly talented tongue and those magical hands, the guy just doesn’t fight fair.

Dawn is intent on melting Iron’s icy resolve to never fall in love with a human. He’s winning her heart and she’s determined to win his right back. These two redheads have just met their matches. Let the battle for love begin.

Melting Iron is book three in the Cyborg Seduction series by Laurann Dohner.

I started this series with book six then went forward and then backwards. I ended up picking up the books that’s blurbs appealed to me in this series. Melting Iron sounded good, but turned out to have no plot and was just smut. I want to point out that I feel the later books in the series are better and have more of a plot and romance then the earlier books.

Now I see/understand a little more as to why the Cyborg’s dislike humans and why they act as they do, but for the most part in this book they are dicks and I don’t care for their societies structure that they put into place.

Melting Iron is my least favorite in the series. The storyline is force seduction and to close to rape for my liking. The first half of the story, nothing happens, except sex and fighting.

As for the romance I never felt any love between Iron and Dawn nor did I see our Cyborg change his attitude towards humans.

Unfortunately, I didn’t like how the story played out. Melting Iron was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

Delectable Delights: Red White and Blue Cake

I found this recipe on Eating on a Dime.

This recipe is so easy and fun!! It’s great for the 4th of July or any holiday, just change your die colors up. I made this for the 4th of July last year (2019) & my family loved it.

Ingredients:

I bought Ghirardelli White Vanilla Wafers instead of the melts. I melted them separately and added my die to the wafer to change the color to red and blue. I couldn’t find melts at my grocery story. The Ghirardelli was delicious, of course! I also had to purchase a bundt pan and I also bought a keeper.

First, follow the directions for making a cake on the cake box. Make sure to use a bundt pan for backing and back with the bundt pan time.

Before putting your cake mix into the bundt pan. Separate the mix into three bowls. Then add the blue die to one, red die to another, and keep the last white. I used about 5-6 drops of die, but add as much to make it the color you want.

Then add the red died cake mix to the pan first, then white cake mix, and last blue cake mix.

Then bake at time recommended on box and after let cool; before adding icing and decorations on top.

Eat and Enjoy!
