Obsidian

Obsidian - Laurann Dohner ~ 3.5 Volcanic Stars ~

Sigh! Obsidian is book 8 in Laurann Dohner’s New Species series. Why do I keep reading this series? I understand when you have series this long there are bound to be ups and downs. I keep wanting something more (what that is I'm not sure). The books are easy to read and require little concentration. The author has a way of informing the reader about what is normal and what is not, which makes it easy to just pick up and read without any trouble.

Obsidian has little action. The story is more about self discovery. The relationship between Obsidian and Allie started out promising, but felt rushed. Lots of of drama and interference in the relationship by other people. The drama and separation were unnecessary. I also take issue with the heightened senses they are supposed to have. If they have these senses then no one should be able to remove someone from homeland or invade their territory. I disliked the psychologist and could not understand why they let him get away with what he said to Allie. Why can’t they replace him? I’m spooled with the Breeds series by Lora Leigh and how the Breeds have control of their territory and extra technical gear to keep everyone safe. I keep getting the impression that the New Species really don’t have control of Homeland or Reservation. I know I should not compare this series to the Breeds, but its just so hard not to do. I have a love/hate relationship with the series. I will continue to read just to see what happens to the New Species.
